The National English Curriculum(2017)clearly puts forward the concept that activity-based teaching and learning should be put into practice to promote the effective formation of core quality of the subject of English in senior high schools.This study tries to explore rules of design and common characteristics of efficient classroom activities,hoping to help other English teachers in senior high schools to organize classroom activities successfully.Based on the theory of activity-based approach,this study investigates two excellent English teachers' classroom activities through interviews,natural observation and questionnaires.It analyzes the similarities and differences between the two teachers' classroom activities in terms of selecting strategies,applying characteristics and teaching effects.Through the case analysis of the two teachers' teaching activities in vocabulary,reading,grammar,writing and test papers reviewing classes,this thesis attempts to provide teachers with a model of activity operation that can be used for reference.Types and frequency of activities used,time allocation of classroom activities,and the data of teaching activities in 15 classes of each teacher are analyzed.Through the questionnaire survey of students,the effect of the two teachers' activities is compared.At the same time,it summarizes the reflections of teachers' own reflections on classroom activities.The study finds that excellent teachers share some common features on classroom activities.Teachers should closely center on the teaching content and teaching objectives,when designing teaching activities.In terms of implementing classroom activities,attention should be paid to time allocation,quantity,type and rhythm of activities.The teaching activities of excellent teachers also share common characteristics: clear purpose,flexible form,practical and effective procedure.Students' feedback on teaching activities shows that they agree that teaching activities are helpfulto English learning,and they expect more activities in class,but it does not mean the more activities,the better.
