Students are supposed to learn cultural knowledge of target language,which strengthens intercultural communication between China and western countries.However,aphasia of native culture in China has become increasingly serious in recent years and students are unable to express Chinese culture in English.The research about analysis of cultural content and absence of source culture in English textbooks can help students to understand the cultural differences well and use English more appropriately and regularly in intercultural communication.The understanding of native language culture helps improve the ability of spreading Chinese culture,enhancing national confidence and cultivating international outlook.Thus,by comparing the native language culture of two sets of English textbooks,the paper will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the two versions of textbooks in the following parts,and then puts forward practical suggestions about compilation of English textbooks,which also arouses front-line English teachers' reflection for English teaching in class.This paper classifies the concept of textbook culture,and divides culture into target language culture,native language culture and world culture,and determines the dimensions and standards of cultural analysis of English textbooks.The research selects two sets of English textbooks widely used in Chinese senior high school,namely,New Senior English For China Students' Book published by people' s education publishing house and advance with English published by Jiangsu education publishing house.The paper tries to compare the proportion of target language culture,native language culture and world culture of these two sets of textbooks.Secondly,it analyzes and compares the structure of native culture,the presentation form and the timeliness of native culture.Through the comparative analysis,the research gets several results.Firstly,from a vertical perspective,the ratio of native culture and target language culture in both sets of textbooks are seriously unbalanced.The content of Chinese culture is relatively small,in a low position.Secondly,from a horizontalperspective,the content of source culture in NSEFC far exceeds that in the advance with English(Jiangsu edition).Thirdly,the result on contrast between mother tongue culture and other cultures that AE better than NSEFC.Compared with other cultures,the arrangement of AE is better than that of NSEFC.Although the NSEFC is dominant in the proportion of the native culture,other cultures are less,and cultural variety is not obvious.From this point,AE does better than NSEFC in coordination of all kinds of cultural proportion,layout of textbook.Two versions of textbooks less frequently use mother tongue language images to create real communication,and the most images don' t reach the best teaching effect.At last,according to the comparative analysis results,the author puts forward some suggestions on the usage and compilation of English textbooks in terms of the usage of textbooks,textbook compilation.The study sheds light on the deletion of native culture compared with other cultures in two sets of textbooks from distribution.For the native culture itself,it finds differences in two sets of books about deficiency of epochal character,typicalness from arrangement.Hence,English teachers should try to integrate textbooks according to practical situation and supplement native culture contents when necessary.English learners should balance different cultures in the process of acquisition to improve intercultural communication competence.
