The military film has always been closely linked with the pace of national progress,the era and the reform of the national army.It also shoulders the responsibility of patriotism education and national defense education,and has a wide influence on shapjing the values of young audiences.In recent years,as excellent military film gaining high box office and arousing heated social discussion,the research on contemporary military film and its audiences may enter a new historical stage.This study takes the audiences of military film as the research object,adopts the grounded theory as the research method,selects two representative and complementary cases "The Founding of An Army" and "Operation Red Sea" to conduct an in-depth study on the audience motivations.First of all,this study defines the core concepts of military film,audience,audience behavior and media using motivation,and introduces the audience research in detail to establish the scientific basic of the audience research on military film.Through literature review,study finds that the current research on military film has high overlap,single method and limited perspectives.And there is still a large space to expand the audience research.Based on this,study draws up the research design.Under the guidance of grounded theory,audiences aged from 20 to 29 who have watched military film are selected as research object to conduct sampling and in-depth interviews.A large number of first-hand data are obtained,and the data are analyzed layer by layer through three levels of coding.Study founds that audiences' behaviors of watching military film showed the following characteristics:time early,instability,high frequency in recent years,reliance on recommendation,strong sociability,excited or discomfort,and less repeated watching.Based on the analysis of audience behavior,14 motivational factors were obtained in the study,including film production,proximity,relativity,the supply structure,available content selection,opinion climate,opportunity,individual characteristics,self-identity,viewing experience,media impression,viewing demand,gratifications obtained,and value of perception.Further 4 categories are summarized,namely the charm of film,social situations,audience expectations and satisfactions.Finally the audience motivation model of watching military film is constructed.Through testing,the model shows some applicability.Finally,on the basis of motivation research,study continues to discuss the production and communication strategies of military film,so as to make the research results more realistic,targeted and practical.On film production,according to the audience's psychology of proximity,truth-seeking and knowledge seeking,study suggests that military film expand realistic themes,close the distance with the audience,stick to the realistic aesthetic style and film's authenticity,and express the film's ideology with modern aesthetic ideas.On communication strategy,study puts forward that attention should be paid to internet communication strategy,time strategy and audience segmentation strategy.
