With the study of metaphors in contemporary cognition,a metaphorical expression is no longer a single rhetorical method in Chinese.People usually express emotions,thoughts,and meanings through metaphorical expressions.Cognitive linguistics believes that a metaphor plays an important role in human cognitive and social activities.It is based on a certain linguistic environment,connecting things that are not connected in practice,produces suggestive meanings,and making the expression vivid and interesting.For those learning Chinese as a second language,it is worth studying whether this kind of expression can promote learners understanding and communicative expression.Therefore,the study of metaphor expressions in Chinese is very important.China Focus is a three-dimensional comprehensive teaching material written in recent years.Its language is real and natural.It shows the most basic communication scenes for learners,and narrows the distance between classroom learning and real life.This materials uses a vast of online video resources,including life,society,contemporary economy,travel,culture,education and business communication.The vocabulary is richer than the meaning of the initial stage,and has a certain cultural connotation,which contains plentiful of Chinese metaphorical expressions.Starting from metaphor theory,this paper applies metaphor theory to second language acquisition and teaching,and takes the above teaching materials mentioned above as the research object to investigate the distribution of metaphor expressions in teaching materials and classifies a questionnaire was designed to them according to theories.Based on metaphorical expressions in the teaching materials a questionnaire was designed to investigate the cognitive understanding of metaphorical expressions in Chinese by foreign students at intermediate and advanced levels in Beijing International Studies University.According to the classification of metaphor expressions and the students 'learning time,age,and cultural circle,the factors affecting the cognitive metaphor expression were analyzed.Finally,the teaching aspects were put forward according to the problems found.This article consists of six chapters,the first chapter is about the introduction.The second chapter mainly combs the definition of metaphor theory,as well as the current situation and development of this theory at home and abroad,and finds out the differences and similarities through thecomparison of Chinese and English metaphor expressions which lays the foundation for research.In the third chapter,we examine and analyze the metaphor expression in China Focus,extract all the metaphor expressions classify them and count them.Then,in the fourth chapter we are investigate on the cognition and application of metaphor expressions in teaching materials,intermediate and advanced Chinese language learners,the statistical data is analyzed and the various factors that cause their cognitive understanding difficulties are analyzed.In the fifth chapter,corresponding solutions and teaching suggestions are put forward and the sixth chapter summarizes the highlights and shortcomings of this study.
