The Study On The Appellation And Function Of Bronze Food-vessels In The Eastern Zhou Dynasty

Under the influence of the advocacy of the Epigraphy,the scholars of the Song Dynasty(960—1279)had begun to study the appellation and function of bronze wares,which has made pioneering efforts in such domain.The Epigraphy became unpopular in the subsequent Yuan(1271—1368)and Ming(1368—1644)dynasties.Correspondingly,the study of bronzes also felt into a trough.By the Qing Dynasty(1616—1912),the study of bronze wares and bronze inscriptions was revitalized,and scholars had also made some great achievements on this issue.Generally speaking,due to the limitation of knowledge level and materials,scholars in the song and qing dynasties established a feasible framework for the study on the appellation and function of bronze ware,but there were still some deficiencies in many specific links.Since the founding of the People's Republic of China,with the continuous enrichment of unearthed cultural relics,scholars have increasingly promote the study on this issue and obtained many gratifying fruits.But for a long time,the researches of the academic circles on the appellation and function of bronzes are mostly scattered.On this account,in this paper,the appellation and function of the bronze food vessels in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty(770-256 B.C.)intends to be sorted out.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction.This part is mainly to summarize the relevant academic history and research status of the appellation and function of the bronzes,and explain the research significance,purpose and method of this paper,as well as some problems that should be paid attention to in the research.The second part is the first to the twelfth chapter.This part mainly introduces the research results of the appellation and function of each type of bronze food vessles in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty,with supplements and studies with other related materials.The third part is the thirteenth chapter.This part mainly studies the modifiers of the bronze food vessles in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.At the same time,we compare them with those in the Western Zhou Dynasty(c.11 th century-771 B.C.)in order to summarize some notable phenomena.The fourth part is the appendix.This part includes self-name statistics table of the bronze food vessles in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
