On The Artistic Characteristics Of Wu Guanzhong's Expressive Ink Painting

Wu Guanzhong is a highly innovative painter in the 20 th century Chinese painting circles.Throughout Wu Guanzhong's artistic creations,watercolor,gouache,Chinese painting and oil painting have all been involved.Among them,the achievements in oil painting and Chinese painting innovation are the most remarkable.His artistic practice over the years has been devoted to the nationalization of oil painting and the modernization of Chinese painting,and finally formed his own distinct artistic features.Although "expressionism" is a school of art originated in Germany,it is undeniable that "expression" is widely present in various paintings of various countries.Chinese traditional freehand painting has certain expressive factors.However,“ the Chinese people talked about the insufficiency of 'straight chests' but could not tolerate the synonym of'self-expression'.” Wu Guanzhong's experience of studying abroad made him deeply influenced by Western modern paintings.His bold and innovative Chinese paintings strengthened self-expression factors and form factors.The weakening of the status of pen and ink has been controversial,and some even criticized his ink works as Chinese paintings.Nowadays,Wu Guanzhong's ink paintings are gradually accepted by more people.Studying the artistic characteristics of Wu Guanzhong's expressive ink painting is of great significance to my future artistic creation.This paper begins with the analysis of the factors that shape the formation of Wu Hanzhong's expressive ink art.Traditional Chinese painting and Western modernpainting are undoubtedly the most important factors affecting the formation of artistic features.Through the specific composition of several ink paintings in Wu Guanzhong,the author analyzes the strong expressive factors and artistic features.The artistic characteristics of Wu Guanzhong's expressive ink painting are summarized in the following:the traditional Chinese freehand brushwork is combined with the self-expression factors of Western modern painting,and the traditional Chinese painting's charm and artistic conception are still reflected in the outstanding expression.He often combines points,lines,faces,black,white,gray and strong colors to make his picture very formal and expressive.In short,self-expression is the starting point for Wu Guanzhong's ink painting creation.
