Reading,as one of the five major English skills,plays an important role in English learning.The English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education defines the reading skills for junior high school students at different levels,and clearly puts forward the requirements at all levels in order to cultivate students' comprehensive ability to use English.For the understanding of reading articles,it focuses on the deep understanding of articles instead of the search of superficial information.However,due to the influence of the traditional English reading teaching mode,many students are often only in the search of article information and memorize language points easily while reading,being poor in reading,analyzing or language reproducing and weak in the ability of induction,generalization and reasoning articles.Mind map is an effective teaching mode that fully mobilizes the whole brain to think by using the elements of images,branches and keywords.It is of great significance to the improvement of English reading ability and reading interest.Based on the theory of Constructivism and Visualization,this paper adopts the methods of classroom observation,questionnaires and interviews to investigate the applied situation of mind map in junior middle school English reading teaching,the influence of this teaching method on students' reading ability and interest and the attitude of teachers and students towards mind map.The results show that mind map is often used by teachers in English reading classes,which will help students understand the context of the article,analyze the main idea of the article,strengthen the deep understanding of the article,and improve students' memory of the text and interest in reading.Besides,teachers and students have positive attitudes towards mind map and hope to continue to adopt this model.Based on the analysis of the results of the study,significance and limitations of the study have been discussed also,hoping that this study will bring some enlightenment to the middle school English teaching in the future.
