Due to the importance of reading in second language acquisition and the close connection between the teacher-student interaction which is mainly caused by teacher questioning and the second language acquisition,the survey on current situation of teacher questioning in English reading class of a senior high has important significance.Based on Krashen's Input Hypothesis and Swain's Output Hypothesis,this study investigates the current situation of teacher questioning in English reading class of a senior high school.This thesis attempts to examine the following three questions:Question 1: What is the current situation of teacher questioning in English reading class of the investigated senior high school?Question 2: What is the current situation of student participation in English reading class of the investigated senior high school under the above situation?Question 3: What are the problems existing in teacher questioning in English reading class of the investigated senior high school according to the criteria of effective questioning?Based on the research questions,there are 200 students and 4 English teachers w in second-year of senior high school as research participants.Questionnaires,classroom observation and interview were used to study above questions.This research has arrived at the following conclusions:The use of the types of questions was imbalanced;Teachers didn't use questioning strategies appropriately;Teacher feedback was not specific.Most students participated in English reading class actively.But their learning methods were mechanical and their ability to use knowledge was poor.Teacher questioning could not quite effectively motivate students' interest in learning and trigger their deep thinking.Some questions proposed temporarily were not clear.According to the problems found in the above research,some teaching enlightenment was put forward.The findings were also expected to help improve the quality of teacher questioning in English reading class to achieve the effective questioning.
