Egypt of Roman-Byzantine Age was the final stage of the development of ancient Egypt and was in the transitional period between the late ancient period and the medieval history.The reason and promotion of status of women in Egypt in this period is the focus of this study.At the same time,the ancient women group were limited by the times,and political life should not be used as the basis for judging the status of women.This paper focuses on the study of women's marriage,family,economic and social life.As a province of Rome,Egypt accepts the traditional customs of Rome.Compared with other legal systems,Roman law favors women in many respects.In 212 AD,it was the era of change in the history of Rome and the Roman citizenship was universally granted in all provinces.The Roman law influenced all aspects of Egypt during this period.The patriarchy is a typical product of Roman system,but the dominance of patriarchy is not necessarily harmful to women.The daughter has the right to have a large dowry and the great legacy provided by her father.In addition,with the introduction of the Roman Liberation Law,children could get out of control while their father was alive.In the marriage,the husband does not absolutely suppression on the wife in the law.After women in Egypt get rid of the guardianship system,women have economic autonomy and can participate in economic activities independently,especially the widow women in the upper society have even reached a strong position.These are not universally owned by all regions of the empire and are unique to Egypt.In this article,relying on Roman law,the different identities of women such as wife,daughter,widow and celibate are considered from three aspects of the original family,the married family and the single life,so as to find that the relative superior situation of women in Egypt in family marriage and social life.
