The course,Comprehensive Business English,combines English learning with practice of international trade.The purpose of this course is to improve the students' comprehensive application ability of English and foreign trading skills.However,the purpose is not fully achieved under the traditional teaching methods applied in this course.On the one hand,English language teaching is not perfectly combined with business-doing skills;on the other hand,this current teaching methods focus mainly on the contents of the textbook,and therefore flexibility and practicality is far less than needed.As a result,the students are lack of learning interest as well as learning initiative,and the teaching effect is not satisfactory.For this reason,many scholars and teachers have been constantly exploring more effective teaching methods.In this study,project-based approach(PBA)is applied in the teaching of Comprehensive Business English,aiming to improve the teaching effect.This article firstly elaborates the characteristics as well as the existing problems of Comprehensive Business English Teaching in Higher Vocational College under the traditional teaching methods,and on that basis,analyzes the applicability of PBA used in the course.Then the article discusses how to apply PBA in the teaching of this course,including the basic principles,elements,and the detailed teaching process consisting of project design,plan-making,information gathering,project implementation,presentation of results as well as the evaluation.The fifth part of the article is about the teaching experiment.Two parallel classes,which are at similar learning level,are chose to conduct the teaching experiment,one as the experimental class(EC)in which PBA is mainly used and the other control class(CC)in which traditional teaching methods are used.The author tries to find out the teaching effect of PBA through both texts and questionnaires.Not only the students' performance in the pre-text and post-test will be analyzed and compared,but also the change of their learning interest and activeness will be analyzed by comparing the result of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire.By analyzing the collected data,the article draws a conclusion that the Project-based approach is an effective approach in the teaching of Comprehensive Business English.It can activate the students' learning interest and help them have a better command of English language knowledge as well as international trading skills.Besides,it can also cultivate the students' team-work spirit and enhance their autonomous learning ability.The last part of the article puts forward some suggestions on Project-based Approach in Comprehensive Business English Teaching in Higher Vocational College,with an aim to promote the development and progress of the course teaching.
