Published more than two centuries ago Mary Shelley's masterpiece,Frankenstein,or the Modern Prometheus, entails a great amount of critical attention and differentiates her from the almost overwhelming reputation of her parents and husband.Frankenstein, with its striking and provocative vision of Frankenstein's strange response to the nameless man he has animated, makes us available to the inner thoughts of the monster and challenges the irrevocable hatred between the opposing sides whereby the development and transformation of the mimetic hatred are delineated. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part is the introduction, the second the main body, and the third the conclusion. The first part of the thesis, the introduction, serves to logically summarize the critical responses to Frankenstein, minutely elucidate the definition and denotations of mimetic hatred and concisely sketch the structure of the thesis. The main body of the thesis covering four chapters provides supporting details to elaborate the presupposition, development, transformation and anticipation of mimetic hatred.Chapter One goes to the three points that presuppose the development of mimetic hatred. In this chapter an analysis of the ill-conceived vitality of the monster, the self-education of the monster by his voyeurism and self-exile of Frankenstein and his creature aims to point out the preconditions for mimetic hatred. As for the development of mimetic hatred the second chapter sees a comprehensive explanation by recounting the details of the metonymical bind of the monster's desire, fear and hatred, the consequences of the dreadful death of Frankenstein's youngest brother, and the impact of Frankenstein's tunneling vision targeting on the monster. Then Chapter Three naturally turns to the transformation of mimetic hatred.Firstly, the monster's self-justification melts the mimetic hatred;secondly, the intermittency of mimetic hatred further promotes the process of transformation;thirdly, the transformation of mimetic hatred in effect marks the formation of hatred for hatred's sake. The last part of the main body dwells on the anticipation of hatred for hatred's sake. The inspirations to discuss interpersonal relation are received from the analysis including rebelling against betweeness, returning to Hobbes and searching for the hidden God.Lastly the conclusion reached by analyzing the mimetic hatred should never be paid less attention,in which a summary of the illusory divinity of human beings in upgrading to be God-like and the destruction of human divine power are second in importance to no other parts.
