Cultural Consciousness Of Chinese Intellectuals In The East-West Cultural Controversy(1915-1921)

Cultural consciousness refers to the connotation that one cultural subject can clearly understand his national culture,understand the past,present and future development trend of his culture,acquire the independent position that the culture has chosen in the new era and realize his self-awakening,self-reflection and self-creation of culture.The outbreak of the First World War has left Chinese intellectuals confused of the Western civilization they had been learning.The triumph fruits of the 1911 Revolution were stolen by Yuan Shikai,which made the thought of respecting Confucius and restoring the ancients commenced on emerging again,leaving Chinese society was in a dilemma in all aspects.Chinese intellectuals began to ponder on exploring the future of China from the cultural level,from which East-West Cultural Controversy were launched.Intellectuals in the Controversy demonstrated different degrees of cultural consciousness.The author gives priority to the intellectuals in the East-West Cultural Controversy from 1915 to 1921 on the basis of the particularity of Chinese intellectuals.The problem of Chinese intellectuals' cultural consciousness in the East-West Cultural Controversy as well as the historical background of the Controversy in the process from 1915 to 1921 have been systematically studies and analyzed by means of the method of combining historical theory in this paper.Therefore,the evolution process of Chinese intellectuals' cultural consciousness under the East-West Cultural Controversy has been discussed,whose the social influence was summarized and The East-West Cultural Controversy that have taken both the national and contemporary characteristics of culture into consideration have been reflected.Intellectuals should consciously undertake the historical responsibility for cultural development,comprehensively understanding the significance of cultural consciousness to cultural transformation in the meantime.On the premise of adhering to the basic principles of materialist dialectics and historical materialism,this paper studies the evolution and social influence of intellectuals' cultural consciousness under the East-West Cultural Controversy by means of literature analysis and comparative research.The paper is divided into six parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background,significance and purpose of this paper.Combing the research status at home and abroad;Clear research ideas and methods and key,difficult,innovative points.The second one summarizes the East-West Cultural Controversy as well as the historical situation of the Controversy and the emphasis on it,and then analyze the main characteristics of it.The third part through the Chinese intellectuals in the East-West Cultural Controversy on the issue of east-west cultural focus,the analysis of their self-cognition to value reflection,and then to identify the cultural conscious process of choice.The fourth one summarizes the impacts of Chinese intellectuals' cultural consciousness on ideological emancipation,social revolution and near-modernization.The fifth one reflects on the cultural consciousness of the intellectuals under the East-West Cultural Controversy,and emphasizes the subject intellectuals of the East-West Cultural Controversys and the role of their cultural consciousness in the contemporary society.The sixth one is conclusion.The cultural consciousness of Chinese intellectuals in a specific period will promote national awakening and social progress,but the cultural consciousness of Chinese intellectuals has obvious limitations of the their times in such a specific historical period,which is the inevitable process of cultural development and cultural transformation.Therefore,Increasingly tremendous priority should be given to the effects of intellectuals and cultural consciousness in contemporary cultural construction.All in all,the study and analysis upon the evolution process and social impacts of Chinese intellectuals' cultural consciousness under the East-West Cultural Controversy will undoubtedly contribute to enriching and extending the academic research on the East-West Cultural Debate and intellectuals as well as the perspective of the study on cultural consciousness,which is of absolute academic value,in the meantime,it is of marvelous practical significance to summarize the characteristics of Chinese intellectuals' cultural consciousness in a specific period,thereby drawing lessons from the East-West Cultural Controversy so as to emphasize intellectuals' leadership,creativity and construction,promote cultural transformation and reinforce cultural strength of the nation.
