Reading is a special high-level brain cognitive activity that uses language and words to obtain information,it is important and unique to humans. For college students whose main task is learning, reading is the main way to acquire knowledge to improve their scientific literacy, and it will also have a certain impact on our comprehensive moral quality.Studies have shown that the background sound has an impact on human's cognitive activities. There has been no systematic conclusion about the influence of background sounds on reading comprehension. This study used behavioral methods to systematically explore the influence of auditory interference on bilingual college students' reading comprehension in both Chinese and English. The first experiment used behavioral science research methods, and the background sounds of the subjects during the Chinese sentence reading task were controlled to explore whether different types of acoustic interference will affect the subjects reading. At the same time put the high-frequency and low-frequency words in the same sentence,to explore the influence of word frequency of reading.Experiment 1 used two factors, auditory interference and word frequency. The results show that(1)In Chinese reading comprehension, white noise does not have a significant impact on reading time.Non-verbal auditory interference light music and verbal auditory interference Chinese background sound and English background sound all interfere with reading;(2)Chinese background sound has the greatest interference to Chinese reading comprehension, followed by English background sound and light music. In the second experiment, the behavioral research method was adopted, and the background sounds of the subjects during the English sentence reading task were controlled to explore whether different types of acoustic interference will affect the subjects' reading. In experiment 2,a single-factor intersubjective design was used, and the independent variable was the type of auditory interference, with a total of 5 levels: no background sound, white noise, light music,Chinese background sound and English background sound. It is found that(1)In English reading comprehension, white noise does not have a significant impact on reading time.Non-verbal auditory interference light music and verbal auditory interference Chinese background sound and English background sound all interfere with reading;(2)Chinese background sound has the greatest interference to English reading comprehension, and there is no significant difference between English background sound and light music. This study enriches the study of irrelevant speech effects in reading comprehension andhas a certain guiding role for the choice of reading environment.
