A Preliminary Study Of The Political Turn In The Theory Of Religious Secularization

Religious phenomena have always been the subject of much attention.In modern times,especially after the Enlightenment,various components of society have undergone tremendous changes,and various social science studies around religious phenomena have also arisen.Secularization of religion is a particularly common phenomenon in Western society.It is also a major problem facing Western religions today.It is closely related to the development of contemporary Christianity.The secularization of religion was first proposed as a concept of the category of religious sociology in the 1960 s.In the 1970 s,the study of the secularization of religion became more systematic and formed many representative theories.For example,the traditional secularization theory represented by Peter Berger,The traditional religious secularization theory is a secularization theory paradigm formed on the basis of inheriting some of the ideas of Max Weber and émile Durkheim.The traditional religious secularization theory believes that religion will show a general decline in the future and it will even disappear,modernization and social differentiation are the main causes of social decline.Religious personal affairs in the field of personal spirituality.The end of the 20 th century,due to the development of the global religious revival movement.Many religious sociologists are aware of the limitations of traditional secularization theory,realizing that the misinformation of the religious trend by the traditional religious secularization theory has caused him to fall into a logical dilemma.On the basis of the reflection on the traditional religious secularization theory,the "anti-secularization theory" represented by Rodney Stark was formed.They believe that although religion has a certain degree of decline,and it will not disappear.The impact of modernization on religion is very limited,the phenomenon of religion cannot be attributed to modernization and social differentiation,and proposing religious competition is the main factor affecting the rise and fall of religion.Only those “religious products” that lack competitiveness in the religious market will decline or even die out.In the context of global religious revival,and in the face of the failure of the traditional religious secularization theory,let us think about such a problem:Has the theory of religious secularization been over?Whether the secularization theory and the anti-secularization theory can adjust to each other?On this basis,this paper attempts to analyze the secularization of religion from the perspective of religious politics,analyze the secularization of religion as a basic category of religious politics,and realize the reconstruction of religious politics in the secularization of religion.
