Study On The Theory Of "Transmedia Storytelling"

"Transmedia Storytelling" is a newnarrative mode,which is makes full use of the multi-media platform to coordinate narrative and fully engage the media in the collaborative writing of the two parties to build a grand world of stories.It is an important branch of post-classical narratology.Its combination of theory and practice makes itselfobtain much attention from the day when it came into being.It not only fully absorbs the quintessence of the existing media theory and narrative theory,but also closely bonds the brand-new culture consumer demand under the environment of media convergence.Especially,with the development of new media technology in recent years,"Transmedia Storytelling" usheres in a new development opportunity.It has been studied by scholars at home and abroad since it was first put forward by Henry Jenkins in 2003.However,it has not yet been systematically sorted out and discussed.Except for introduction,in order to make a clear theoretical blueprint of"cross-media narration",this thesis will focus on "Transmedia Storytelling" to discuss its historical appearance,ideological origin,theoretical perspective and its transcendence and elimination of narratology.The first chapter explores thetimes necessity of "Transmedia Storytelling" from the historic view.On the one hand,media convergence provides a platform for the emergence of "Transmedia Storytelling";On the other hand,the new consumption mode of audience under the environment of media convergence also gives birth to"Transmedia Storytelling".But "Transmedia Storytelling" is different from adaptation.It would cause the expansion of story world during the process of cross-media and cross-platform rather than use different media platforms to express the same story content.The second chapter reveals the rich connotation of the theory from the ideological origin of "Transmedia Storytelling".Narrative turn's attention to different media narratives and the change of audience's identity in media theory.In addition.Henry Jenkins putting forward the theory is bound to his teacher Fiske's media thought.Combining with the development of media makes people see the different narrative ability of different media and the dependence of different narrative modes to the media.Therefore,the emergence of "Transmedia Storytelling" has a profound ideological accumulation.Chapter three analyzes the theory itself.Taking the classical case The Matrix of"Transmedia Storytelling" as an example,the author explores its deep connotation from three aspects,its foundation,focus and goal.Focusig on a unified story world,"Transmedia Storytelling" not only gains a loyal audience,but also benefits the expansion of the story world,which is on the basis of giving full play to the collaboration of different media to narrate the same story world and elites from all walks of life to improve the story world as well as taking advantage of the power of fans and who pursue the mystery of story world through cross-media.Chapter Foursummarizes the influence of it on narratology from the transcendence and dissolution of "Transmedia Storytelling".In a large sense,"Transmedia Storytelling" has the image of other schools of post-classical narratology,and it has become a field with broad development potential with its unique narrative play to various media.At the same time,"Transmedia Storytelling" has also led to the generalization of narrative,intellectual property disputes and other corresponding social problems;in a small sense,interactive narrative as an important development field of "Transmedia Storytelling",the development of new media technology will bring new opportunities for narrative development,at once such narrative myths as"Alef and "holographic deck".In a word,it is a narrative theory with both light and darkness,and its advantages and disadvantages need to be carefully examinedFinally,the last part will summarize the theory and make a simple analysis with IP phenomenon of network literature,which is a hot topic at present in China.I hope this narrative theory can play its due role in the current cultural field.
