Vocabulary is a central component to a language and of great significance to EFL learners.However,English vocabulary has always been neglected by English teachers and there are many problems in English vocabulary learning.Therefore,for researchers and English teachers,it is important to develop and find out appropriate learning strategies of English vocabulary.For these reasons,the author induces a new strategy — the 5R Note-taking Strategy in order to overcome the current problems of English vocabulary learning.In this thesis,the author absorbs the template of the 5R Note-taking Strategy and combines the five steps with English vocabulary teaching.It involves to conduct an empirical application of the 5R Note-taking Strategy to English vocabulary learning in primary school and set the research questions as below:Question 1: Does the 5R Note-taking Strategy increase the English vocabularylearning interest of high-grade students in primary school?Question 2: Does the 5R Note-taking Strategy increase the English vocabularyproficiency of high-grade students in primary school?Based on these questions,the author makes the experiment in Xiliu Central Primary School of Liaoning Province for four months from September 2018 to December2018.The participants of the research are 86 students from two parallel classes who are taught by the same English teacher.The traditional note-taking strategy is used in the control class while the 5R Note-taking Strategy is used in the experimental class to learn English vocabulary.The experimental instruments are questionnaire,test and interview.After data collection,the SPSS statistic software is utilized to analyze the experimental results.After the experiment,the conclusion can be drawn as follows: Firstly,the high-grade students in primary school show greater interest in English vocabulary learning by using the 5R Note-taking Strategy than the students who use traditional note-taking strategy.Secondly,the result of the experiment indicates that the 5R Note-taking Strategy increases English vocabulary proficiency of high-grade students in primary school.What's more,students' English vocabulary learning efficiency is improved and most students choose to continue using the 5R Note-taking Strategy.
