A Study Of Trauma Subiect In The Fiction Of Kazuo Ishiguro

Kazuo Ishiguro is a famous Japanese-born British novelist,Kazuo Ishiguro with his unique writing style is listed as one of the "three emigrants in British literary circles".As an international novelist,the writer not only devotes himself to writing for people of different nationalities,but also for people of different times,he hopes to explore human nature in the literary space.This paper studies his eight novels with the method of trauma theory.Taking the European trauma theory as the breakthrough point,through sorting out the trauma studies of Freud,Carus,Herman and others,it shows that the study of trauma needs to pay attention to trauma events,trauma symptoms and trauma healing.Firstly,the essence of trauma is discussed,from how trauma is imprinted in the mind of the injured subject to how it works and reconstructs,and the personal trauma of the protagonist will reflect the trauma of the country and society.The impact of traumatic events will not end in the traumatic parties,it will secretly "pass" to future generations.Discussing the essence of trauma around memory and forgetting helps to analyze the trauma of the characters.Secondly,it explores the trauma in the novel from two aspects:content(traumatic theme)and form(traumatic narrative),it presents the trauma of the characters by listing the performances of the traumatized subjects in different groups(men,women,children)and the dislocation they produce.At the same time,the trauma of the subjects can also be expressed in spatial images and other images,the victim’s narrative can also examine the process of their trauma.Next,the thesis transits from the study of literary texts to the discussion of the social significance of literature.Kazuo Ishiguro expresses his cultural thinking through the narrative of texts,he believes that responsible writers will directly intervene in the current social problems and give good remedies,and then show the writers’concern for the cultural position of all human beings by "internationalization" writing.Finally,the author summarizes three ways of healing through the above two parts,establishing autonomy,establishing new contacts and fulfilling special missions.Music therapy also plays an important role in the process of character recovery.This paper focuses on the theme of trauma,trying to discuss the literary significance and practical significance of Kazuo Ishiguro’s works.In his works,the author points out the way of healing for the characters in the text,which is also helpful for us to understand the common trauma problems in the real society.In a word,these works,which focus on the theme of trauma,show Ishiguro’s close attention to social reality and reflect the social significance of his literary writing.
