A Research On The Construction Of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's Political Discourse

In 2016,the National League for Democracy(NLD)came to power.And Daw Aung San Suu Kyi became the actual leader of the current Myanmar government.Therefore,critical discourse analysis of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's political discourse can more comprehensively analyze her political discourse construction and language strategies,and help us have a deeper understanding of the most important political figure in Myanmar.In this paper I will combine different analytical methods.Firstly,the corpus analysis method is used to establish a special corpus of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's discourse.Secondly,Halliday's theory of systemic functional grammar is adopted to analyze the grammatical features of the discourse from the perspectives of ideational function and interpersonal function.The texts are combined with the social and historical environment for analysis and interpretation of the ideology and power relations in the discourse.This paper is mainly divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the period division and word frequency statistics of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's discourse;the second chapter is the lexical analysis of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's discourse;the third chapter is the grammatical analysis of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's discourse;the fourth chapter is intertextuality analysis of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's discourse.After the analysis of this paper,we can draw the following conclusions:In 1988-2018,Daw Aung San Suu Kyi continued to enrich and change her political discourse according to the changes of social environmental factors and the needs of political purposes.She constructs her discourse system by selecting the vocabularies,the transitivity processes and intertexts that fits the social conventions of Myanmar.In order to obtain more support to achieve her political goals,she caters to the values and emotions of the Burmese people and imperceptibly integrate the re-constructed discourse system into the thought system of the Burmese people.And through these public speeches and the social practices of the NLD,Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has influenced the focus of the Burmese people and the future direction of Myanmar.
