With the rapid development of China,education has become a social issue of increasing concern.How to educate and nurture children has also become more and more important to many parents.To educate and nurture children well,the first thing is to understand their psychology,and then the corresponding education program should be formulated.Only in this way can children grow up well physically,intellectually,morally.Before adolescence,minors are called children or teenagers.They are very educative in the aspects of thinking,personality,intelligence and physique.Children's education is the foundation of the whole educational cause.The source text of this translation report is taken from The Self-Driven Child,in hope at Chinese people better understand some methods of training and educating children.Eugene A.Nida put forward the well-known “dynamic equivalence” translation theory,namely “functional equivalence”,from the linguistic point of view and according to the nature of translation,in order to make a standard of the transformation between the source language and the target language and reduce the differences.In this theory,he points out that “translation reproduces the information of the source language from semantics to style in the most appropriate,natural and equivalent language”.Nida's definition of translation indicates that translation is not only equivalence in lexical sense,but also equivalence in semantics,style and literary style.The information conveyed by translation includes both surface lexical information and deep cultural information.The equivalence in dynamic equivalence includes four aspects: lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence.That is to say,literal translation and free translation are both strategies of translation for the purpose of translation.Therefore,there is no substantive contradiction between them.It tells us that it is necessary to choose appropriate translation strategies according to different translation purposes in order to accurately reproduce the source language culture and eliminate cultural differences.This translation report covers four chapters.The Chapter One gives a brief description of the translation task.The Chapter Two is about the whole process of translation,which is divided into four stages: preparation before translation,analysis and revision of the first draft,analysis and revision of the second draft of translation,and analysis and polishing of the final draft.The Chapter Three classifies and summarizes the specific problems encountered in the process of translation,and selects typical cases for analysis.For example,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,when dealing with long and difficult sentences,the author mostly adopts sentence splitting method and word order adjustment method.In addition,free translation,conversion of translation,addition and omission are also used in the translation.Chapter Four,the author summarizes the author's experience in the process of translation,as well as the inspiration and prospect for future work.Through this translation of The Self-Driven Child,the author has gained a lot of valuable experience and lessons.In order to translate well,first of all,we must have solid basic skills.If we do not have solid language skills,we can not guarantee the fluency and readability of the target language in the process of translation.In addition to basic skills,the author also needs to have a good understanding of the culture of the source language and the target language.Only by understanding their respective cultures can we accurately translate the meaning of the source language and achieve cultural equivalence.
