English grammar is often considered to be difficult to learn due to its complexity,which leads to students' low interest in grammar learning and accordingly results in students' poor performance in English grammar.To address the current poor performance in English grammar,many teachers have tried to use mind mapping as a teaching strategy in English teaching.This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using mind mapping in senior high school English grammar teaching,trying to seek answers to the following questions:1.What are students' responses towards the use of mind mapping technique in senior high school English grammar teaching?2.Can the use of mind mapping assist in arousing students' interest in English grammar learning?3.Is the use of mind mapping technique effective in improving students' grammar mastery in high school English grammar teaching?In line with the above questions,it is hypothesized that using mind mapping can help improve students' grammar mastery and arouse their interest in English grammar learning.For the purpose of testing theses hypotheses,a four-month teaching experiment was conducted in NO.2 Middle School in Tongling City.Questionnaires,interviews and tests were used to collect relevant data.The results indicate that:(1)the use of mind mapping in grammar teaching has greatly improved student' grammar proficiency;(2)students are willing to accept the use of mind mapping as a useful strategy to support their grammar learning;and(3)students can construct meanings based on their own understanding of the grammar knowledge they have learned and their interest in grammar knowledge learning has been significantly improved.As is found in this study,the use of mind mapping in English grammar teaching in high schools can raise students' grammar learning interest and grammar proficiency.It provides a useful technique for students to positively learn English grammar.Hopefully,this study may shed some enlightenment for current grammar teaching.In view of the advantages of mind mapping in promoting people's memory,exercise thinking and sorting ideas,it is recommended that this technique be applied more to other areas of English teaching,such as in English reading,writing and vocabulary teaching.
