Artists,as life experiencers, internalize the sufferings and pains they experience in life into the sources and themes of art.For example, they may take death as the theme or present the aesthetic outlook of the image of death in their artistic work.In the discussion of “death”,as an ultimate topic,it seems that the various physical and psychological“traumas” can be relieved or healed to some degree;meanwhile, artistic work also becomes a window for freeing souls.Focusing on traumatic experience as an example, this paper conducted a brief analysis of the transformation of the creation methods and the artistic language of the image of death in artistic work, and then discussed the death-related artistic work as powered by “traumatic experience” at different levels. Moreover, the author explored more inspirations and more tangible starting points for artistic creation. The author attempted to transform traumatic experience into artistic “images of death” based on his own life experience and make efforts to find the connection to the beauty and warmth of life. The paper consists of three chapters.Chapter One makes a brief classification on the “image of death” in classical art, analyzing it in the two perspectives of western classical art and Chinese traditional art.In the chapter, the author explored the relationship between the image of death in classical art and traumatic experience.Chapter Two mainly analyzes the change of the themes, the creation methods, and the art language in the cases of modern and contemporary artworks and summarizes the important role and functions of the traumatic experience.Chapter Three introduces the creative practices based on the author's reflection on the traumatic experience and the image of death so as to achieve a deeper understanding on the significance of the narration from the grief of life to the beauty of art.
