Court Journal of the Founding of the Great Tang, which is divided into three volumes, records the main deeds of the 357 days when Li Yuan Tang Gaozu set up his army in Taiyuan to call himself Emperor in Chang'an.The author Wen Daya came from the Wen family of Qi in Taiyuan. He once served as the Ji Shi Can Jun of Li Yuan, who stayed in Taiyuan, and experienced the establishment of the Tang Dynasty.Court Journal of the Founding of the Great Tang was finished in March of the third year of Wude(620)to May of the fourth year of Wude(621).The book was written with official political intentions and was collected in court institutions after its completion. It is an unconventional monarch's Qijuzhu. As a monarch's Qijuzhu,Court Journal of the Founding of the Great Tang, was taken from the historical records of the Tang Dynasty, and became the main source of historical materials in the part of Li Yuan's establishing the Tang Dynasty in the Biography of Emperor Gaozu in Old Tang History Book. When the Biography of Emperor Gaozu in New Tang History Book re-compiled the historical events of the Biography of Emperor Gaozu in Old Tang History Book,it again drew on Court Journal of the Founding of the Great Tang.Changes in historical concepts such as the origin of emperor's power between Tang and Song Dynasty led to a series of changes in the compilation and w:riting of historical events. The content of the Fuchen in Court Journal of the Founding of the Great Tang bears the function of describing and propagating the political legitimacy of Li Yuan's transformation from a local stay to a founding monarch. The implication of Fuchen on which Li Yuan established the Tang Dynasty was inherited from the thought of Chenwei since the Han Dynasty, and Taoist factors were incorporated into it,which provided a clue for the construction of Patriarchal relationship between Lao Tzu and Li Tang's royal family.
