Study On The Education Of Overseas Chinese Affairs In Meizhou,Guangdong During The Late Qing Dynasty And The Republic Of China

This thesis attempts to make research to the education of overseas Chinese in Meizhou during the period from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China,aiming to explore the interaction between overseas Chinese and their hometown and the impact on the education of the hometown.The educational institutions founded by overseas Chinese played an important role in the educational history of Guangdong province.In the late Qing Dynasty,Chinese society was in an important transition period from tradition to modern.During this period,the politics,economy and culture between China and the West mixed,and Chinese traditional education exchanged with the Western-style education,which led to the rise of new-style education across the country.In Meizhou,the hometown of overseas Chinese,a large number of expatriates who had studied abroad have become the main force in promoting the development of new education in the hometown of overseas Chinese in the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China.Their donation and educational activities have provided strong support to the development of education in their hometown.The effectiveness of overseas Chinese education was remarkable.As a result,Meixian’s educational achievements became a model of Guangdong Province and even the whole country.Influenced by overseas Chinese,the overseas Chinese schools in Meizhou have absorbed many modern factors,and they have revealed distinct overseas Chinese colors and factors in terms of schooling methods,organization and management,student learning,and educational concepts.Affected by both internal and external factors,the overseas Chinese during the late Qing Dynasty maintained a long-term donation to the education of overseas Chinese in Meizhou.Through overseas education,overseas Chinese actively participated in the affairs of the hometown of overseas Chinese,which enhanced their sense of presence and influence in their hometown,and to some extent satisfied their psychological pursuit of the sense of belonging to the hometown.
