The musical "Notre Dame de Paris" is adapted from the 19 th century French romantic representative Hugo's eponymous masterpiece,which is as famous as the "Four Great Musical Dramas".The drama premiered in Paris,France in 1998 and achieved great success.In 1998,it was performed consecutively for 126 scenes and it sold 2 million tickets,nearly 7 million albums,more than 1 million cassettes and nearly 200,000 DVDs within the single year.The song "Beauty" in the play won many world music awards and was covered by many singers.The drama toured in major cities of many countries around the world including Beijing and Shanghai in China from the end of 2002 to the beginning of 2003 when strong repercussions were caused."Notre Dame de Paris" is known as one of the best-selling musicals.Its music capacity is quite large and the songs that keep the amazingly same style and have few repetitions add up to more than 50 within the whole series.In "Notre Dame de Paris",the balance between "music" and "drama" is broken.People are familiar with Hugo's famous works.Therefore,the plot in the play is rarely explained by music.The composer puts all his efforts into the beautiful melody.And the singing and dancing of the play is completely separated.Seven protagonists sing songs while professional dancers performdances.The concept of stage in "Notre Dame de Paris" is also quite advanced.Performances on the stage are rough and concise but full of passion.It is not only a scene in the drama,but also a unique three-dimensional presentation penetrating into the character's inner heart,all of which realizes the integration between the scene and emotion.This thesis mainly analyzes the artistic elements of musical drama:script,music,dance,and beauty design to analyze the characteristics of the musical "Notre Dame de Paris" on the stage to explore why the drama is so successful.Through the performance analysis of the drama music and the actor's role vocal music,the characteristics are clearly defined,and the charm is grasped.Through the interpretation of the script,the important role of the script in the creation of musical drama is realized;using the formal analysis of the performance of the drama and the performance of the dance performance,understand the characteristics of the drama design and dance.I hope to provide some guidance on the creation of musicals in the future.
