With the development of economy,international communications between countries are becoming more frequent than ever before.English,as an international language,has a more important position and plays an irreplacable role.Influenced by such an environment,there is no doubt that high quality and high-level English talents are needed.So to speak,a growing number of youths plunge into the English study not only for the examinations but also for ideal jobs.Their targets are beyond the requirements of the exam-oriented education.However,given that the policy of the increasing enrollment in China in recent years,a considerable number of students in college English class a common phenomenon.Objectively speaking,it is not easy to teach students English in large classes under such a circumstance.Large-class English study can cause a lot of uncontrolled problems,such as students keeping silent,tedious atmosphere in class,no enough concentration on class,and so on.To solve these problems,according to CL Theory,the researcher makes a study on college English reading teaching in large classes so as to take measures to improve college students' English reading capability.This research lasts 16 weeks.By means of questionnaires,interviews,tests,and classroom observations,the research on college English reading teaching in large classes with a control class and an experimental class is conducted.The result of this research suggests that CL is suitable for college English reading teaching in large classes,and does have a positive impact on large class college English reading teaching.It has improved students' reading competence,communication skills,confidence,self-esteem,individual accountability,etc.Of course,there are some disadvantages of CL in large class English reading teaching.For example,the topic of the group discussion is likely to be out of control,and opportunities to make a statement in a group are not equal to each member.To counter these problems,some teaching implications have been given,such as being students-centered,active learning atmosphere,improving individual accountability,and dividing reasonable groups,etc.In the end,the researcher gives some personal suggestions to make a further study.
