This paper mainly discusses distinguished teachers' directives,tries to find out linguistic features of distinguished teachers' directives and summarizes the functions of the directives according to some theories and researches.Meanwhile the politeness strategies as well as the strategies used to protect students' faces are also discussed in this paper.In order to do the research,the author firstly observed the video tape and then transcribed and classified teachers' discourse.Finally,the author analyzed the collected data.Three main findings have been found in this paper,they are:firstly,distinguished teachers often use direct directives and they often use directives with multiple structures.As for the functions of directives,distinguished teachers often use directives for giving requests and for classroom organization.Secondly,mitigated strategy and bold strategy are most used by distinguished teachers.Thirdly,according to Brown and Levinson's politeness theory,to protect students' face,positive politeness strategies and negative politeness strategies have been used in distinguished teachers directives. |
