Silence and voice behavior two of the most common behaviors at work.Voice behavior has been found to have many positive effects, but the research on silence behavior focuses more on its negative effects, and few studies on whether silence behavior will bring positive effects to individuals or groups.Focusing on the positive effects of silence, this study explored the two basic dimensions of silence behavior and voice behavior on social cognition--the role of warmth perception and competence perception, the mediating role of liking and voice constructiveness, and the moderating role of prosocial motivational attribution and perceived preparedness, and mediated moderation effect of silence behavior and voice behavior. The study tested the hypothesis with three pen and paper experiments.Experiment 1 was divided into two parts:pre-experiment and formal experiment. The preliminary experiment was designed among single factor subjects, with a total of 200 participants,to verify whether the two self-designed embarrassing situations were effective. The formal experiment was designed for the participants.A total of 50 participants were selected from the awkward situation 1 to manipulate the independent variables. The participants conducted the manipulation test after reading the situation, and then measured and reported the demographic variables to verify the moderating effect, mediating effect and mediated moderation effect.Experiment 2 is a single-factor interexperiment design, which is divided into experiment 2a and experiment 2b.2a manipulated voice behavior with two embarrassing situations.400 subjects evaluated voice behavior by reading two embarrassing situations. In the formal experiment 2b,similar to 2a,400 subjects manipulated the silence of independent variables with two awkward situations, and then conducted the manipulation test, variable measurement, and finally verified the hypothesis.Experiment 3 was a single-factor design among the subjects, with a total of 200 participants. The independent variables were manipulated by recall method, and the silence and voice behavior were manipulated by asking the subjects to recall relevant embarrassing situations. Then the manipulation test and the measurement and evaluation of related variables were conducted. The results showed that when individuals were in an embarrassing situation, prosocial motivational attribution could moderated the relationship between silence behavior and warmth perception.Compared with individuals with low prosocial motivational attribution, individuals with high prosocial motivational attribution could improve their warmth perception of others' silence behavior.Perceived preparedness moderates the relationship between voice behavior and competence perception. When the perceived preparedness by the individuals is higher, the competence perception of others' voice behavior will be improved. The research also verified the mediated moderation effect. The effect of prosocial motivational attribution on silence behavior and warmth perception was mediated by liking. The effect of perceived preparedness in voice behavior and competence perception is mediated by voice constructiveness. Finally, the contribution, deficiency and future research prospect of this study are discussed.
