Population movement in ancient Greece was common and frequent, also appeared in various different ways.Colonization is only one single point in those translations and wanderings, many people was also forced or voluntarily leave their native land and take flight to other living space. The exiles and diaspora in ancient Greece proved to be in various forms and had internal differences between them, though sharing a common identity. The exiles and diaspora in ancient Greece came from different groups, and were caused by different reasons. They could be roughly divided into three categories, the ones exiled in political unrest, the ones punished by law,the diaspora driven out by war.Further division can be made such as active and passive displacement, escape in group or in person.Exiles and diaspora differed in how they responded after the identity change. The different version of choices of the exiles and diaspora reflects the different kind of mindsets and the crisis response capacity, which is determined by the original social status and identity of them. The exiles and diaspora can be roughly divided into two categories, namely, those ones who take flight to other polis or even Persia, and those ones managed to return to their motherland. Some of them successfully returned, others may have failed and their living conditions have deteriorated. The length of the displacement time also diversed, resulting in various kind of ways. The exiles and diaspora also had various states of living, whether they accepted their identity, how to play a new role in society. The mainstream culture in the community has mixed opinions on the status of the exiles and diaspora, which apparently accord to different specific historical scenes, depended on the identity of those wandering Greeks and the reasons of their displacement. After being driven out of the community, exiles and diaspora tend to diversify their perceptions of the identity label. The property rights and citizenship of exiles are changed, sometimes guaranteed and sometimes forcibly denied. The activities of these people also have short-term or long-term effects on the politics, international relations and the balance of power between the poleis.
