Study On The Importance Of Sketching In The Ceramic Painting

Chinese traditional ceramic decoration technology has experienced a long period of focusing on performance,such as carving patterns,designing on woodwork,or glazing etc.During this period,the craft workman has played an important role in the process of production and has created lots of beautiful arts and crafts.However,as the literati painters entering into the field of ceramic decoration,people have been aware of the applying the painting to pottery to help ceramic artists create works more rich and full of renewed spirit.Masters of art who had made significant achievements all advocate strengthening creativity from actual life.Ceramic artists should also develop their own artistic sensibilities by sketching and learning from nature to constantly accumulate creative materials which is the source of all ancient and modern artists.Zhang Zao in Tang Dynasty had put forward that artists were good-fortuned by mentors but better comprehended inside.It is a traditional Chinese painting idea,which should be used in ceramic painting to create more outstanding works.In this paper it simply analyzes the different consciousness in sketching in Chinese and western culture.It surveys the importance of sketching in the ceramic painting by the analysis of ancient and modern artists' painting and their creating experiences.And it also analyses the ceramic decoration layout ?patterns of manifestations? freehand brushwork and scene creation in traditional Chinese cenery ceramic paintings to explore more sketching methods in ceramic painting,and to set forth the importance of sketching in ceramic painting creation to arouse the sketch awareness of the creators by researching on Xie He's “Six codes” and combining with the ceramic painting characteristics and own creative practice.
