As a female writer with delicate feelings and withstanding the baptism of the May 4th Culture,Ding Ling's life is full of thinking about life and the world.Her creation reflects her inner projection of the difficult historical predicament.Some men appeared in her early novels have the quality of ideal men.The depiction of ideal men in her early novels is quite different from Ding Ling's writing in the middle and late stages,showing unique charm.From 1928 when Ding Ling first published her novel to 1932 when she joined the Communist Party of China,she portrayed many young men with flesh and blood.There were many ideal male characteristics in her early works.She recognized men who were ideologically awakened and politically progressive.Such as Wei Hu,Wangwei and Ruoquan,these young men have made progress in ideology and devoted themselves to the revolutionary movement.Ding Ling has devoted a lot of attention to them.The ideal male in her novel is handsome and masculine,and the men with leadership and literary talent are also appreciated by Ding Ling.On the attitude towards love,the young men who cherish love and respect women are the men recognized by Ding Ling.The formation of Ding Ling's ideal male was deeply influenced by the vigorous May 4th Movement at that time.Infected by the May 4th Movement,she described the characteristics that the young people should have in line with the spirit of the May 4th Movement,and looked forward to these excellent qualities for the men in the new era.Ding Ling's feminist thought and her progressive petty bourgeoisie stand made her grasp these ideal male images and women.The description of images is inseparable.Generally speaking,the ideal male in Ding Ling's eyes basically corresponds to the characteristics of the May 4th Spirit.Ding Ling presents the characteristics of ideal male image by means of artistic expression of contrast and sustenance,but her image-building has the characteristics of typification,and this series of techniques constitute her unique writing characteristics.The study of the ideal male in Ding Ling's early novels has a series of values.It is a literary representation of the May 4th male youth,an exploration of modern gender relations,and a symbolic solution to the historical dilemma of revolution and love.
