The Chinese nominalization usage was first put forward in 1956 when Zhang Zhigong presided over the establishment of a temporary quasi-Chinese teaching grammar system. It came into being in the specific context of the great discussion of Chinese parts of speech in the 1950 s.The Chinese nominalization usage has become a much-talked-about topic in academia since it was put forward, but so far there is no conclusion. Thus, based on the actual use cases of language, this paper analyses and summarizes the Chinese nominalization phenomenon in order to have a clear and distinct cognition of it.There are five parts in this paper:The first chapter is introduction. This part mainly explains the reasons, purposes and significance of the study of Chinese nominalization,as well as the research methods and sources of corpus. It can be seen from this that although the phenomenon of nominalization has aroused a discussion in academia since it was put forward, experts and scholars has not made a more perfect and reasonable explanation for it.Therefore, this phenomenon needs further study and reflection. The second chapter is a discussion about the Chinese nominalization phenomenon.Although a lot achievements have been made in the great discussion of Chinese parts of speech from 1953 to 1955,there is no consensus on the standard of word classification. It is against this background that the Chinese nominalization usage was first proposed by Zhang Zhigong in 1956.However,once this usage was put forward,it caused a controversy which Zhu Dexi was the most strongly opposed. In his later years,Zhu Dexi also found some shortcomings in his own views, but because of its great influence,it is unavoidable for people to mention them again and again. After the 1980 s,many experts gave new explanations on the phenomenon of nominalization from different perspectives, such as Li Mingyu,Zhang Bojiang,Yao Zhenwu. The third chapter is the analysis of nominalization.Firstly, through a large number of linguistic facts, all predicates that can enter the nominalization structure are summarized and counted.Secondly, through the analysis, the grammatical features of nominalization are summarized.Thirdly,by comparing with multi-category words and word-class shift,it is concluded that the real syntactic features of nominalization. Finally, the most typical functional features of nominalization are summarized. The fourth chapter is the identification of the essential attribute of nominalization.Firstly,by comparing with English nominalization,it is concluded that even in morphological language, nominalization is an objective phenomenon which is the deviation of the regular position and function of specific parts of speech. Then,in the absence of inflections in Chinese, the phenomenon of nominalization is the same.Secondly, the phenomenon of nominalization is analyzed by using syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations. It is concluded that the phenomenon of nominalization is the result of the combined effect of both syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations. It has fixed position and functional characteristics. It can be said that predicate deviates from its regular position and function and forms a set separately.Thirdly,it is pointed out that due to the deficiency of the referent of noun part, some predicates is used temporarily to show this deficiency, which deviate from their normal position and functional characteristics. Finally, the essential attributes of Chinese nominalization are concluded. The fifth chapter is conclusion. The root of the problem of nominalization lies in whether it leads to "indefinite classes of words, indefinite classes of duties",or "fixed classes, indefinite classes of words".And based on the conclusions of the third and fourth chapters,it is pointed out that the objective existence of nominalization will not lead to "indefinite classes of words, indefinite classes of words","indefinite classes of words, indefinite classes of words".
