Research On The Application Of Serious Games In Material Cultural Heritage

With the rapid development of modern technology,conflict between modern civilization and traditional culture has become increasingly obvious and the existing Material Cultural Heritage(MCH)is being influenced gradually.However,the existing protection methods and public awareness towards the knowledge system of MCH can't meet the urgent demand of preservation and conservation of MCH.Therefore,this paper aims to raise public awareness of the knowledge system of MCH and help them build protection consciousness of the MCH.The development of technology has promoted the blossom of the Internet industry.This paper is based on the theory of serious games.Guided by the demand data from the research process,we designed a type of digital interactive serious game-Travel in the Imperial Palace-in the form of the Internet electronic games,dedicating to preserving and conserving MCH of Shenyang Imperial Palace in Qing dynasty.As a result,this paper is the mixed product and theory crystallization of the design practice.Starting from the preservation and conservation of MCH,we explore the new combination of serious games and protection of MCH,by exploiting the functional attributes of serious games.First,through investigation and visits to Shenyang Imperial Palace in Qing dynasty,we detect the problems faced by Shenyang Imperial Palace in Qing dynasty in the aspect of preservation and conservation of MCH.Then by analyzing the survey data,we determine the targeted users and their requirements.Focusing on the preservation and conservation of MCH in Qing dynasty Shenyang Imperial Palace,we manage to balance the functionality and entertainment according to users' requirements.Second,in the design of our serious game that mainly explores the Qing dynasty Shenyang Imperial Palace,we put forward our innovative idea and breakthrough point.More specifically,based on MCH of Qing dynasty Shenyang Imperial Palace,we figure out the requirements of the serious game design such that the game is presented with reasonable functionality and more artistic features,contributing to the preservation and conservation goal of the game design.Finally,establishing on the abstracted game elements,we improve the users' game experience while at the same time summarize their feedback and our design.As a conclusion,we obtain the applied research methodology of employing serious game in preserving and conserving the MCH of Qing dynasty Shenyang Imperial Palace.
