Teacher talk,is the language used by teachers in the classroom.English teacher talk,plays an irreplaceable role in classroom.On the one hand,it has the function of organizing the classroom;on the other hand;it also has the function of offering language input.It is through teacher talk that teachers either succeed or fail to implement their teaching plans.This thesis applies qualitative and quantitative research methods on the basis of Krashen's comprehensible input hypothesis,Long's interaction hypothesis,Swain's comprehensible output hypothesis and Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory.The author chooses 2 representative reading classes from the 10th national teaching demonstration and transcribes the videos into the text.It tries to answer the two questions:Question 1:What are the diversities and common features for the 2 teachers' talk in pre-reading,while-reading,post-reading,from the perspective of organizing classroom teaching?Question2:What are the characteristics of teacher talk in askins questions,giving feedback and providing scaffold from the perspective of providing language input?It is found that firstly,teachers leave more than half time for students to read ana talk and what makes up the whole classroom is what actually occurs during tace-to-face communication between teacher and students.Interaction is central to effective teaching.Secondly,both teachers ask more display questions than referential questions.From teaching and learning perspective,the difference between display question and referential question is not as important as the relationship between a teacher's teaching objective and question selection.What will matter is the use of appropriate questioning strategies.Thirdly,excellent teachers are good at giving effective feedback and elicitation,which gives students more opportunity to acquire language.And finally,excellent teacher5s talk is logic,relevant and provide proper scaffolds in the process of teaching.These findings,on the one hand,provide an account of characteristic of excellent teacher talk in reading class;on the other hand,also help teachers improve the quality of their talk.
