The Impact Of Multicultural Differential Experiences On Immoral Behaviors

As the cultural exchanges between countries become more and more close,we have various wavs to contact foreign cultures which are completely different from our native cultures.Because of the differences between Chinese and foreign cultures,that is,multicultural differences may affect the individual's cognition and behavior.So,will the multicultural differential experiences have an impact on the individual's immoral behavior?Through three interrelated studies,this study attempts to explore the impact of multicultural experience on immoral behavior and the mediating role of moral relativism in this process.In study 1,Chinese college students were recruited as subjects(N=175,Mage=20.32,SDaOt=0.94)by means of questionnaires.Multicultural differential experience,immoral behavior tendency and moral relativism were measured.The results show that multicultural differential experience increases some immoral behavior tendencies of individuals by improving moral relativism(e.g.speeding due to lateness);on the basis of study 1,Study 2 adopts experimental methods,and 168 ordinal Chinese college students(Mage=19.80,SDage=1.26)are taken as subjects,using cultural priming paradigm to manipulate multicultural differential experience.(Multicultural group&single culture group&control group)to examine its causal relationship with immoral behavior(e.g.,deception).The results show that multicultural differential experience can increase the deception behavior of individuals.Study 3 further explores the effect of multicultural differential experience on immoral behavior by experimental method.165(Mage=20.36,SDage=2.00)ordinary Chinese college students were selected as the subjects to study their effects on immoral behavior by manipulating the multicultural differential experiences in different degrees(large multicultural differences group&small multicultural differences group&single cultural group&control group).The results show that the greater the multicultural differential experience,the higher the moral relativism,the more immoral behavior(deception).This research has certain research significance and value:enrich the potential mechanism of multicultural experience affecting immoral behavior,and guard against the possible influence of multicultural differential experience on immoral behavior,so as to play a positive role in multicultural experience.
