Rainwater is a romantic history novel created by Sandra Brown who is a famous American novelist.The novel presents the story and emotions through the ups and downs of the plot.So far,no Chinese version of the novel has been published.Therefore,people can learn more about foreign literature and promote the exchange and communication between Chinese and foreign literature through this translation practice.Furthermore,this translation practice also provides some reference for future novel translation.This translation practice report,based on the first six chapters of the novel Rainwater and their translation as the translation material,analyzes the typical examples of the translation practice.Under the guidance of the "three principles" of skopos theory(the principle of purpose,the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity),the chapters are translated.In translation,the translator should follow the principle of faithfulness and convey the intention of the author.However,in the translation of some words and sentences,the translator should follow the principle of purpose and present the linguistic features that the author wants to highlight.Besides,in the whole process of translation,the principle of coherence is essential.The translator also can combine the three principles flexibly.In light of this,the translator uses addition,conversion,omission,combination,division,voice conversion and other translation methods in the translation process and they are also analyzed and discussed in the report.Finally,a summary is made of this translation practice and the results and shortcomings of the translation are pointed out.Through this translation practice report,the author discusses the guidance of "three principles" of the skopos theory on the translation of English novels and their specific application in our translation practice,hoping to provide some references for future novel translation.
