The report excerpted from chapters 1 to 5 of Jeffery Archer's mystery novel—Honor Among Thieves. The novel's interlocking and complex plot should arouse reader's great interest. This report analyzes the difficulties in the translation process, such as detail descriptions, scene conversion and the atmosphere of tension and suspense. In order to solve these difficulties,I choose Catford's translation shift theory and adopt its four conversion methods: level-shifts,structure-shifts,class-shifts and unit shifts to guide translation practice. This report is mainly divided into the following parts: firstly,it introduces the research background and significance. And then there are four chapters. The first chapter is translation project description, mainly including the introduction and significance of translation project. The second chapter introduces the translation process, including pre-translation preparation, text translation and post-translation check. The third chapter applies Catford's translation conversion theory in the case study. The fourth chapter is the conclusion that summarizes the experience and shortcomings in this translation practice.Through this translation practice,I have realized my shortcomings and understood that an excellent translator must have rich knowledge and necessary translation skills. At the same time,I also expect this report can provide some reference for later researchers.
