Wang Zhaowen Artistic Appreciation Theory Study

Wang Zhaowen(1909-2004)is one of the pioneers and constructors of the Marxism Aesthetics of China,and he has made remarkable contributions to the development of Chinese contemporary Aesthetics and Art Theory.The study of Wang Zhaowen's theory has always focused on his Art Theory or his Aesthetics.Up to now,there are few Master thesis or Doctor thesis focused on his Art Appreciation Theory.However,his Art Appreciation Theory plays an vital role in his whole theory works,which has an exploratory meaning for the transition of Chinese Art Appreciation Theory from tradition to modern.Therefore,it's quite essential to study Wang Zhaowen's Art Appreciation Theory.The explanation of Art Appreciation is mixed among his other theories,with indistinct structures.According to this situation,this paper aims to tease out the Art Appreciation Theory from his whole academic works by intensive reading with textual close reading method,which includes the process of its evolution,the key elements and its theoretical features,to probe its value and significance.This paper consists of four parts:“the formation and development”“the key elements”“the basic features” of Wang Zhaowen artistic appreciation theory.Firstly,in the first part,this paper sorts out the formation and development of his theory,which comes from the curtain social history and his special creation and aesthetic practice experience,and Chinese ancient cultural heritage is its main nourishment.Secondly,in the second part,this paper has focused on the analysis of the key elements of his theory,including the important roles that the appreciator(subject)and artistic works(object)has played during the aesthetic relationship and the significance of appreciation to realize the arts social function.The last,in the third part,this paper has analyzed the basic features of his theory.As a plastic artist,Wang Zhaowen,with his unique experience,has an unusual way to structure and analyze his theory,which embodies his theoretical value.
