Beyond The Means

In the second half of the 20 th century,with the advent of computers and the development of digital technology,human society entered the era of digital information.Throughout the history of world art,the absorption of new technologies and new media in artistic creation has been happening all the time.These explorations and experiments are constantly expanding the field of expression of art and artistic concepts.After the digital technology involving in the creation of sculpture,the collision,subversion of form,concept,culture and aesthetics come with it.As an artistic medium with intrinsic aesthetic quality,it also changes the thinking logic and conceptual appeals of artists,changes the audience's perceived content and viewing style,and changes the expression and meaning of the sculpture.Contemporary digital sculpture should form a self-consistent language logic and artistic concept.Starting from McLuhan's media theory,this paper attempts to explore the inherent media quality of digital technology and explore the new features of contemporary sculpture after digital intervention.The paper first briefly introduces the relationship and development of digital art and digital sculpture,and expounds the concept of digital media.Secondly,the key chapters of the article define narrow and generalized digital sculptures separately,summarize and analyze their specific characteristics.From the perspectives of shape language,modeling techniques,image symbols,and aesthetic concepts,the paper analyzes the narrow digital sculptures and summarizes the characteristics of space transformation,digital abstraction,digital illusion,modern beauty and algorithm beauty.The research on the characteristics of generalized digital sculpture basing on the perspectives of its forms,viewing methods,media concepts,media language,meaning generation,meaning interpretation and the cultural context on which new media depends,summarizes several representative features such as virtual and perception,interaction and body,network and teleportation,dynamic and image.In the process of expounding and analyzing,the comparative research method is mainly used to compare digital sculptures with previous sculptures,and the case analysis method is mainly used to list some representative works of art in the development of contemporary digital sculpture to support the arguments and demonstrate the actual performance of their typical features.In summary,digital technology brings more than a new and convenient technical means to sculpture.As an artistic medium with unique charm,it is participating in the writing of the history of sculpture art in an active and creative way,and it has painted a rich and colorful color for the diversified development of contemporary sculpture.In addition,except the technology's update to arts,the meanings of social,cultural,psychological and the directivity to reality can not be ignored.
