David Lodge is a world-famous British scholar.He is not only a productive literary critic,but also a novelist with strong self-consciousness.In the “Academic Trilogy”,Lodge took the scholars of the institutions of higher learning as the subject,consciously integrate the life and academic ideas of the scholars into the text,and discussed serious topics such as the academic system and professional morality.In the process of creating academic novels,Lodge reviews the changes and development of the academic world with internal perspective,and fully described the living condition of the scholars at present.The author focuses on academic novels,and analyzes the text in a detailed way from the three perspectives of college,academy and scholar,so as to trigger the reflection and attention of the academic world from readers..The article is divided into five parts.The introduction part describes the research condition of academic novel of David Lodge at home and abroad.Meanwhile,the author defines academic novel.The first chapter is a discussion of the college landscape in the novels written by David Lodge,and an analysis of the changes and development of academic culture from the micro”Small World”,the author reveals the British educational system and culture as well as the different life circumstances and spiritual pursuits of scholars reflected by the college landscape.The second chapter is a discussion of the way Lodge embeds academic dialogue into his text writing,by combining the author's literary criticism views,the author analyzes the embedment of traditional novel theories in Changing Places and the theoretical communication in Small World,so as to reveal the vulgar treatment and reflection of academic utterance in academic novel by Lodge.The third chapter is a discussion of the contradiction and tension between the scholars' ideal and reality,it is mainly an analysis of the gap between the academic pursuits and real life of the scholars in Nice Work,the invalidity of academic terminology in reality as well as the communication between the scholars and the world,between the works and the author.The last part of the article is a generalization of the significance of Lodge's “academic Trilogy” and other works in the history of Western academic novels writing as well as their significance for academic novel writing in China.
