It's really hard to separate language and culture.Language carries culture,and culture is the charm of language.In the process of language learning,cultural learning is of great significance,which directly affects whether students can form and improve their cultural literacy.Therefore,it is necessary to integrate cultural teaching while teaching English,and to greatly enhance students' intercultural communication ability through this approach.In 2017,the Ministry of Education issued the High School English Curriculum Standards(later I will use new curriculum standard to refer to it),clearly stipulating that English subject should cultivate students' core literacy,improve students' cultural awareness,let them be confident in Chinese culture and actively spread Chinese culture.At this point,cultural teaching,cultural content and cultural knowledge have risen to a higher level in foreign language teaching.Textbooks are the main tool for foreign language teaching and the main carrier of cultural inheritance.The rationality of its content directly affects the results of cultural teaching.Advance with English(Yilin Edition)is one of the most widely used high school English textbooks in China,and its cultural content is worthy of our research to verify whether this set of textbooks is up to the standard for cultural awareness and promote editors further to improve the teaching materials,which will help teachers to better use theteaching materials,so as to carry out cultural teaching more efficiently.The main questions discussed in this paper are:(1)What cultural content is selected in the Advance with English(Yilin Edition)?(2)What are the advantages and disadvantages of the choice of textbooks in cultural content?(3)How can the textbook editors and teachers improve and use the cultural content efficiently according to the analysis results?Therefore,This paper first analyzes the theoretical value and realistic value of cultural content,and concludes that the cultural content deserves in-depth study.Next,through the analysis of the guiding ideology of the inter-cultural communication and the new English curriculum standard,the textbook culture evaluation model of this research is selected,and the content and superiority of this model are introduced in detail.Then,according to Byram's textbook cultural content evaluation model,qualitative and quantitative methods are used to classify,summarize and evaluate the cultural content involved in the reading chapter of the compulsory textbook of Advance with English(Yilin Edition).Finally,I'll give advice to teachers and textbook editors.According to the research,we can conclude that the cultural content of the set of textbooks covers a variety of topics,basically covering the cultural content evaluation model of Byram,but the editors must pay attention to the content of some themes.Teachers should continue to strengthen cultural literacy in the process of using textbooks.Before theclass,teachers are supposed to explore values of the text with the help of this reasearch and train students' thinking quality by guiding students to compare cultures during the class.Also,they can find multiple forces to help students form cultural equality consciousness and cultural confidence.
