The Absurdity In David Lynch’s Films

The aesthetics of absurdity was born in the constant exploration of human irrational world.It emphasizes the opposition between man and the world,and emphasizes the rupture of people’s harmonious eternal desires in the irrational world.Camus believes that the emergence of absurdity has guided the direction of people’s confused life and awakened people’s thinking about the meaning of their existence.Although absurdity will accompany us until death,we still have to face up to the absurdity and actively challenge the absurd.David Lynch is a ghost director in the American film industry,and his work is unique in the film industry with a gloomy,bizarre and black-hub movie style.His films are full of variegated images,chaotic narratives,and gloomy atmospheres that make people stunned in reality and illusion,comedy and tragedy,sobriety and confusion,and this is absurd.Most of the researches in the domestic academic community about David Lynch are film studies on the narrative and audiovisual aspects of film.Few studies have analyzed the core of Lynch’s film works through aesthetic theory.This paper mainly uses the aesthetic category of absurdity to analyze the absurdity of the four aspects of David Lynch’s theme,characters,narrative structure,and the corresponding audiovisual expression.The thesis first defines the absurd aesthetic theory,and begins to analyze the reasons for the formation of the absurd style in David Lynch’s film.From the absurd essence,it analyzes the absurdity of David Lynch’s film theme.Secondly,it discusses the absurdity of the characters in David Lynch’s film mainly in two aspects: the way of facing the absurdity in the theory of coronation and the characteristics of the alienated characters in David Lynch’s film.Thirdly,this paper analyzes the absurdity of the narrative structure in the film with the narrative features of the chaotic sequence in David Lynch’s film.Finally,this article explores how the absurdity in David Lynch’s film is further deepened through a comprehensive analysis of the mutated pictures,absurd language,and audiovisual combination in David Lynch’s film.
