This paper is a translation practice report based on Chapter Three of the book The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea.In view of the problems and difficulties in the process of translating popular science works,this report takes some specific translation cases to analyze and study the translation strategies.Guided by Gutt's relevance translation theory,this report adopts the relevant translation strategies to reconstruct translation relevance so as to obtain the communicative intention of the original text and accurately convey the communicative purpose of the writer to the target audience.The translation practice report is mainly divided into five chapters: Chapter one is an overview of the translation practice,including the introduction to translation materials,author profile,text feature analysis as well as the objectives and significance of the translation task;Chapter two briefly describes the translation process including the pre-translation preparation,translation strategies and methods for translation difficulties,and detailed translation plans;Chapter three gives an outline of relevance translation theory including its formation,two principles,main viewpoints and contributions to translation studies;Chapter four is the case analysis,and the author discusses the difficulties and relevant translation strategies in the process of translation on the basis of relevance translation theory;Chapter five is the conclusion of the translation practice,which briefly describes the problems,experiences and feelings of the author in the whole process of translation.
