In recent years, with the rapid growth of China's economy, the pace of Going Out is also accelerating. The performance of Bi Feiyu's overseas translations were obtained in this context. In a nutshell, there are three main works in the translation of Bi Feiyu's works in the United States, namely,Yumi, the Moon Opera and Message.Due to differences in culture, ideology, and the expectations of overseas markets and readers, the spread of Chinese literature and culture has not achieved the desired results. The Going Out path of Chinese contemporary literature is not only influenced by the quality of literary works, but also subject to many factors such as translation, promotion, introduction, publication, distribution, and filming of works. There are many scholars who have done excellent research on translation, such as George Steiner's "After the Tower of Babel-Language and Translation." Steiner holds two concepts of translation: narrow and broad. The broad concept refers to the transformation of meaning in all forms. He was influenced by the three types of Jacobson's translation and put forward the idea of "understanding is translation".The American reader's understanding of Bi Feiyu's works is a kind of translation behavior.Based on the translation theory proposed by Steiner, this paper studies this generalized translation behavior and examines the acceptance of Bi Feiyu's works in the United States.Professor Xie Tianzhen's "Translatology" points out that literary translation is not simply a conversion of Chinese characters into foreign languages. If the literature "goes out" only considers the loyal and smooth translation of the translation,it cannot explain the many existing problems. For example, two famous translations of A Dream in Red Mansions, one is the British translator Hocks translation, and the other is the Yang Xianyi couple translation. The former was criticized by the domestic translation community for some mistranslations, and the latter was highly respected in China because it met the standards. However, some researchers have concluded that the translation of Huo is more welcome in the English-speaking world, and the Yang translation is left out. This phenomenon is not an isolated case. Therefore,Xie Tianzhen believes that the study of "going out" must be liberated from the traditional concept of translation.Faithful, smooth, elegant is a basic translation theory. On the basis of this,it is necessary to study the reading habits of the target audience. The aesthetic taste, the ideology of the target language country, the poetic concept, the translator's own translation methods, methods, strategies and many other factors,so as to more comprehensively study the reasons that affect the dissemination and acceptance of the work.According to the "translation and mediatics" theory put forward by Xie Tianzhen, the author focuses on the three Bi Feiyu novels Yumi, the Moon Opera and Message translated by Howard Goldblatt as the main research object, focusing on several reasons that affect the dissemination and acceptance of works.Such as the publication and distribution of Yumi, the differences in readers' ideology between the two countries. The translation method and strategy of Howard Goldblatt in the Moon Opera, the reading habits of American readers, and the aesthetic taste.Message was awarded a grand prize at the Berlin Film Festival for its adaptation of film and television. It attracted the attention of readers and promoted the influence of Message novels and the author himself overseas, including the transformation, derivation and influence of translation methods. These are the research centers of this theory. The specific chapters are as follows:The first chapter looks at the case of the translation of Yumi.Among them, the publisher's propaganda on the book misleads American readers and makes readers think that Yumi is a novel composed of three stories. Many readers can't stand the separation of Yumi,Yuxiu and Yuyang. In fact,Yumi is the abbreviation of the collection of three novels.Strictly speaking,it should be called "the Yu trilogy".Because of the convenience of publishing and the familiarity of readers with Bi Feiyu's works, the domestic publishing houses have been integrated into one book for publication. In a convenient way,it affects the translations of France and the United States. When Yumi was published in France and the United States,it was also a synthesis of three novels. In the French version of the translation, there is the preface to the French version of Bi Feiyu. In the preface,Bi Feiyu explained in detail that these three stories are independent of the three middle articles. The time disconnection problem of Yuyang is actually deliberately set.The purpose is Reflect on cultural inertia. This preface was not added in the US version.Cultural differences created obstacles to understanding.American readers could not experience the Chinese Cultural Revolution and lack understanding of Chinese history. The publisher's inaccurate propaganda strategy has made Yumi not showing unique value in American translation. The second chapter discusses the acceptance of the Moon Opera in the United States and the translation strategy of Howard Goldblatt. The book is widely acclaimed among American readers because the story is short and exquisite, the text is delicate, and the translation is smooth. The Chinese element contained in the story,Peking Opera,is a unique Chinese cultural image that satisfies American readers' curiosity about China. The story of XiaoYanqiu in the Moon Opera tells the story of an artist who struggles with the years, ideals, money, and entanglement. It has aroused the resonance of many readers. The tragedy expressed in the novel has touched many American readers. The success of the translation of the Moon Opera is closely related to the unique cover design.Howard Goldblatt ‘s authentic language is close to the original temperament that is an important reason for the success of the translation. When Howard Goldblatt and his wife translated the Moon Opera, they adopted several major translation strategies, such as provincial translation, deletion, free translation, literal translation, and additional translation, which made the translation most close to Bi Feiyu's style. The third chapter is the translation of Message in the United States. The book was unremarkable in the US market, but the film Message of the same name won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival and received attention from the United States and the world. As a translation of the novel text, the film, which spread to the United States before the novel, the American audience turned their attention to the original novels and writers by watching the movie. The influence of the film of the same name on the original novel, the film plays an increasingly important role in the translation of Chinese contemporary literature. The film plays a pioneering role in transmitting Chinese image and spreading Chinese literature. The advantages of film in communication should be taken seriously, but the adaptation of the film will also weaken the audience's understanding of the original. In the adaptation, the writer will perform the operation on the original according to his own understanding, personal preferences and the needs of the drama. Many movies only describe part of the original plot and story, and cannot fully present the author's whole idea.In this case,it is not only Message,Zhang Yimou's Coming Home based on Yan Geling's The criminal Lu Yanshi. An Lee's film of the same name based on Zhang Ailing's Lust,Caution is a circumstantial evidence. Therefore,we should objectively consider the advantages and problems of the film in overseas translation. The appendix of this article is an interview with Bi Feiyu. In 2018,the author went to Yangzhou to interview Bi Feiyu. We talked about Howard Goldblatt,Chinese literature fever,Mo Yan's award,Chinese literature translation,Bi Feiyu's French reading club, and the first, second and third chapters' topic.Bi Feiyu expressed his views on the translation of Chinese literature.
