As an important part of children’s literature,children’s picture books play a significant role in the development of children’s language,cognition and personality.Therefore,the introduction and translation of foreign children’s picture books has been an attention of the publication circle in recent years.However,relevant translation studies are rare.Therefore,this thesis adopts the theory of multimodal discourse analysis to discuss the translation problems of children’s picture books.Children’s picture books are a special form of reading integrating the models of pictures and words.Therefore,readers can get intended meaning from both of them.The thesis studies the relations between the two modes of children’s picture books,and categorizes their relations as: parallel,complementary and contrast,and then discuss the translation problems of children’s picture books in detail on the cultural level,contextual level,content level,and expression level in the framework of multimodal discourse analysis.Based on the above analysis,this thesis suggests that the translator should consider fully the relations of pictures and words,select the proper translation strategies to fulfill the translation purpose and conform to the social cultural background of target language and the life experiences of children.
