The word "image" mainly comes from translated works of western art history,usually referring to image,icon,picture and their derivatives.According to Fu Aimin's Introduction to Modern Iconography(Fu Aimin,Chinese contemporary young scholar painter,doctor of minority art,associate professor of fine arts college of central university for nationalities),the common word used in late-stage iconography works is "image".Several main meanings of "image" can be understood from iconography's definition of "image" :(1)mental image,impression,refers to the graphics in the viewer's mind constitute the mental process of image cognition.(2)statues,portraits,ICONS,also containing the meaning of the graphics program,which is the same as icon.(3)image or copy,to copy a similar image,showing the image propagation performance.(4)description of the image in the psychology.The noun picture means graph,photo,film,image,etc.It refers to the physical existence of images,and also has the meaning of mental image,image,description,narration and similar images.However,the use of Picture often refers to specific actual images,staying in the appearance of visual images.This paper mainly selects the picture in the image,the material existence of the image,that is,the meaning of the existence of objects like photos or movie pictures,to discuss Richter's Image Application and Meaning Construction.The reason why Richter was selected as a case study,and the topic of Application and Meaning Construction which is studied and discussed with the method of topic divergence is as he has a unique way in using images.He is one of the representatives of German contemporary easel painting and an internationally influential painter after German expressionism.Richter's paintings has had an important impact on contemporary oil painting in China.His use of images,unique painting techniques and the meaning behind them,as well as his influence,have great attraction.Richter lived through world war ii and social and artistic changes.He was remembered for his use of a large number of photographs,newspaper illustrations and other elements,and for his style of "picture painting",but his legacy goes far beyond that.Therefore,this paper discusses Richter's image use and meaning construction,as well as the enlightenment to the author.The thesis is divided into five chapters: case study,literature study and topic divergence.In the introduction of the first chapter,a large number of literature research methods are used to discuss the basis and background of the topic,research status and trend,research contents and methods,Richter's personal experience and characteristics of painting.The second chapter USES the case study method,discusses Richter's image utilization,from the image choice,the image utilization,two aspects discusses.In the third chapter,the meaning construction Richter's painting is divided into two aspects: the metaphor of conceptual image and the fuzzy aesthetics of painting.The fourth chapter discusses the significance of the theme to the author from four aspects: the choice of the image,the construction of the story behind the painting,the revelation of the fuzzy expression,and the concise expression of the theme.In the end,the thesis concludes and then proves that the discussion of the topic is not about blindly telling case studies,but about the influence and inspiration on the author's creation through the problems and studies proposed in the paper,so that it is feasible to return theoretical research to practical creation.
