The Application Of Chinese Topic Chain's Role In English-to-Chinese Translation

Women Who Work: Rewriting Rules for Success is written by Ivanka Trump,the daughter of Donald Trump.Based on her own start-up experience,Ms.Trump discusses the dilemma encountered by working women.Women Who Work embodies the thinking of English speaking people and is expressed in an authentic English way.Discourses of English and Chinese are organized in different ways: English discourse is organized through the progression of theme and rheme.While the typical organization of Chinese discourse is by the topic chain.In rendering this work into Chinese,the original organization of the English discourse sometimes requires reordering of the organization in order to meet the habitual ways of Chinese discourse.By studying the application of Chinese topic chain in English to Chinese translation,this paper explores the possibility of applying Chinese topic chains in English-to-Chinese translation so as to facilitate a translation that is more conforming to the discourse organization of Chinese.
