Multi-angle. Topic Chain Discourse Mechanism

This dissertation is an application-oriented study,in thedissertation,we try to carry a multi-angular study on topic-chains.The creation of discourse is a very complicated-dynamic process,inthe process,there is always the effect of human-beings' cognitivepsychology.Firstly,it is the meta-cognition which monitors,appraisesand regulates the discourse.We can insist that every paragraph can bedisport into two levels,one is the meta-discourse,another is the basicdiscourse.And the first one shows as a series of meta-discourse markers,however,the second one a series of topic-chains.While being effectedby meta-cognition,the basic discourse is also affected by mental schema.We mainly observe the situation of topic-chain,and depict the connectmeans between the different topic-chain and in one same topic-chain.Andwe discuss the function of meta-cognition in the development processtopic-chain.At the same time,we analyze some deviance of topic-chainin oversea students' composition.In addition,we analyze thetopic-chain on the basis of information.The dissertation is composed of six parts,and from the third chapterto the fifth one is the main body.The first chapter introduces the theory basis,the methods,and alsoprovides the origin of materials.Furthermore,we summarize the sixquestions from oversea students' written exercises.In this chapter,weafford a new definition to topic-chain.Chapter 2 discusses the markers of topic-chains.We introduceinterrelated views about meta-cognition and meta-discourse firstly,thenwe analyze the definition of the markers of meta-discourse,and we alsotell the difference between meta-discourse and logical cohesive words.On this basis,we review the cohesive means between different topic-chains.Furthermore,we describe the intent verbs and speech verbs according to"the modern Chinese verbs usage dictionary".Chapter 3 mainly discusses the forms and markers of topic-chains onthe background of cognition and meta-cognition theory.We analyze the keytypes of topic-chains according to the meta-cognition situation,on the foundation of types analysis,then we focus on the adjustment strategiesof topic-chains and its' discourse form,especially,we discuss theunsuccessful adjustment appearing in the materials built by overseastudents.Chapter 4 analyzes the topic-chains from the view of informatipnstructure.The theory of information structure found by Lambrecht isintroduced first,then,on the basis of the information structure theory,we canvass the pragmatic characters of topic,besides this,we discussthe deviant phenomena in oversea students' compositions.Furthermore,we probe into the inter-bedded structures of the discourse.Chapter 5 discuss the context-functions of topic-chains,and weafford an example to show how to analyze a piece of discourse,apart fromthis,we provide a simple discussion on some familiar means such asintent-verbs,relationship-clauses and adverbial clause which used by theinterlocutors in the process of discourse-build.Chapter 6 sees the conclusion of this dissertation,in this part,wesummarize the main content of the dissertation,then we account for thevalue and disfigurement of this study,in this chapter,we also make outthe aim of this program in the future.
