Dynamic assessment is an evaluation method that advocates the integration of assessment and teaching into a monistic activity. This concept is derived from Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory(SCT).During the dynamic assessment, the mediator provides appropriate mediations for learners to explore the learner's level of cognitive development and their maturing ability. There have been some dynamic assessment studies in the field of foreign language teaching, including listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, while other areas have not been fully explored. Some dynamic assessment studies abroad for different levels of learners have proved that dynamic assessment can promote students' language acquisition. There are still few related studies in China. This study aims to apply dynamic assessment to secondary school EFL learners, and to study how dynamic assessment can effectively diagnose learners' developmental levels and in what ways dynamic assessment adds to our understanding of learners' grammatical abilities and also to explore learners' perceptions towards DA.The author selected predicate verb as the grammar point and selected four students in Grade 10 as the participants of the study. The study lasted for 6 weeks and included 6 static assessment sessions and 5 dynamic assessment sessions. The author followed the “implicit to explicit” mediation strategy principle and provided interventions for learners based on real interaction with learners. The authors used the communication between teachers and students in the dynamic assessment process as the data to compare and analyze the performance of the learners in using predicate verbs over the six weeks and compare the acquisition performance of the four learners horizontally. This study shows that dynamic assessment can effectively diagnose the developmental levels of learners and detect their existing problems, which can effectively promote learners' further acquisition of the target grammar points.
