Yang Biaozheng(1573-1620),was a Chinese Guqin(also known as Qin)musician who was one of the most prominent figures in the creating of Qin songs(a form of Qin music)in the Ming dynasty.He was born in Gongchuan,Yongan,Fujian province,and his activities were mostly around the Fujian province.Besides his passion for playing Qin,he was also good at poetry and prose.And he often travels around with his Qin.Through his life,Yang Biaozheng created a large number of Qin songs and compiled a manuscript called Chong Xiu Zhen Chuan Qin Pu(compiled in 1585),which is a widespread Qin music manuscript published in Nanjing.Qin music in Ming Dynasty was more prosperous than that in Song Dynasty.The situation that the Qin music in Song Dynasty was dominated by Zhe School remained in Ming Dynasty,but the pure instrumental Qin music represented by Shen Qi Mi Pu flourished and became mainstream in the Ming Dynasty.Additionally,the flourishing of Qin song was a new feature of the development of Guqin in Ming Dynasty,and Yang Biaozheng was very important for the development of Qin songs.The culture of Qin song in Ming Dynasty can be seen as an independent clue in the development of Guqin culture;regarding the two performance forms of the Qin music,pure instrumental Qin music was closely related with Qin Songs,and a confrontation period existed between the two forms.The thesis based on the history of Guqing development in Ming Dynasty,choose Yang Biaozheng as the research subject.Exploring his life,friendship and his activities regarding Qin by means of philology,historical research,and comparative research.Investigating his philosophy behind his Qin music,the backgrounds and purpose of his creation of Qin songs.Trying to investigate the reasons for the flourishing of Qin songs in Ming Dynasty.The thesis is divided into four parts:The introduction gives the background and significance of this study from the aspects of the culture of Qin music and the rhetoric of Qin songs in the Ming Dynasty;introduces the relevant information about Yang Biaozheng.The first chapter presents the life of the Qin musicians in the Ming Dynasty.It narrates the changes of the centers of different Qin schools in different stages of the Ming Dynasty and the development of the Qin songs in different stages.This chapter also elaborates the cultural background of the Qin music in the Ming Dynasty and the general situation of the activities of the Qin musicians.The second chapter introduces Yang Biaozhgeng and his creation of Qin songs.Investigates Yang Biaozheng from his life story,affiliated Qin schools,friends,activates about Qiu music and creation of Qin songs and studies the source and content of the Qin songs he created.The third chapter discusses the values and inspirations of Qin songs created by Yang Biaozheng for the future creations.Choose the Qin songs from Chong Xiu Zhen Chuan Qin Pu as research subject,trying to understand Yang Biaozheng's value to the prosperity of Qin song from the aspects of the inheritance and the creation of Qin songs.Attempts to show the historical facts of the prosperity of Qin song in Ming Dynasty.
