A Survey Of Language Use And Language Attitude Of Yi People In Liangshan Prefecture

After the reform and open-up in the 1980 s,many Yi people entered their county cities.Especially in recent years,with the rapid development of the social economy,more and more Yi people went to work in their county cities.For decades,the Yi people who entered the city have gradually changed their concepts through constant contact with new things,so they formed a special group,which is called city Yi people with its connotation different from Yi people in rural areas.From the perspective of sociolinguistics,this emerging Yi group has undergone great changes in its own mother tongue and Chinese language because of changes in its environment.In Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture,due to the large differences in geography,climate,population structure,traditional values,and educational level between the eastern and western regions,economically significant differences have been created.In order to comprehensively understand the language use and language attitude of the Yi people in Liangshan Prefecture,this paper selects the Yi people in two counties as the survey targets: one is the Dechang County,which is better in economic development,and the other,Meigu County,is representative of less developed economy in the eastern Liangshan region.The purpose is to examine whether the factors of economic development will affect the language use and language attitude of Yi people among newly emerged citiy Yi people.And to make a comprehensive description of the language use and language attitude of the Yi people in the two counties,this study systematically analyzes the differences in language use and language attitudes between the two places and the factors that cause such differences.This thesis is divided into five parts: the first part introduces the research background,purpose and significance of the research;the second part introduces the humanistic background of Dechang and Meigu counties;the third part introduces the language use of the respondents and their linguistic background;the fourth part studies the language attitudes of the Yi people in the two counties from the perspective of function,feeling and so forth;the fifth part analyzes the differences in language use and language attitudes of the Yi people in the two counties;and the final part is to summarize the differences in language use and language attitudes of the two counties and make some conlusion for this study.
